| Why Would You Need a Fulham Ballast? |
| When you go out of the United States to a new country, you will notice you need to use a voltage adapter in order to use your electrical appliances. This is because different countries have electricity running at different voltages. If you don’t use an adapter, then you may damage your electrical equipment or it just might not work. With a Fulham Ballast, you can prevent this sort of problem from occurring with your metal halide bulbs. These bulbs are already a big investment for you, so it’s best to learn how to avoid any safety issues along the way.
Using special light bulbs may be necessary for a number of reasons. Those who want to grow plants indoors can not rely on everyday incandescent bulbs to simulate the diversity of light within a beam of sunlight, so they utilize bulbs like those of metal halide. Metal halide lights not only give off blue light, but they can also give off some UV light, which tricks the plants into thinking they are outside. In addition, the lights are warm enough to keep the plants happy and growing just as they might outdoors.
However, because these lights are special, they need special accommodations. In order to produce light in a metal halide bulb, special gases need to be heated up and electricity needs to run through them, but with too much electricity, the bulb may not work or it might simply blow up. This is where a ballast comes in to help. A Fulham Ballast is used to help limit the amount of electrical current within an electrical circuit. When there is too much electricity, the circuit can blow and then you won’t have any more light.
What many people don’t realize, too, is that when you turn a light on, that’s when the circuit can be overpowered. The Fulham Ballast will ensure the metal halide bulb only gets what it needs to get in order to work properly and to work safely.
Of course, metal halide bulbs aren’t the only bulbs that need a ballast. You might also use a ballast for neon lights, LED lighting, and even fluorescent lighting. You know that sound that fluorescent lights make when they first turn on? That’s the ballast turning on as well, regulating the electrical current.
Often, ballasts are now electrical in nature, which helps to make them even more efficient at regulating energy to the bulbs. Standard ballasts were not as reliable as these new systems, and thus could have troubles with regulating energy. But with electrical systems, these are much hardier, though they can also be a bit more expensive than the older versions. Always buy ballasts new, too, as used ballasts are not reliable.
There are many different types of ballasts. Some are purchased separately from the bulb while others are a part of a lighting system and are purchased at the same time. You might want to compare the effectiveness of each system as well as what the lighting manufacturer recommends before choosing the system that’s best for you.
With a Fulham Ballast, you can ensure that your lighting works, no matter if you’re just turning your lights on for the first time or you have to leave your lights on for extended periods of time. A ballast will allow you to rest more easily, and you will lose fewer lights along the way as well. |
