| Accuracy and Craftsmanship are Hallmarks of an Atomic Watch |
| An atomic watch is designed to offer wearers the most accurate time possible on the planet Earth. Such timepieces are radio controlled in order to ensure precision time and dates. This is accomplished in part through the internal antenna in the watch model and the program installed in the piece, which searches for the sixty kHz radio signal updating the time. Wearers enjoy the benefit of also never having to set the time or date because this is perpetually done automatically. On a schedule, once a day, atomic watches receive a low-frequency radio signal, which works to keep the watch in sync with the official Atomic Clock of the United States, operating out of Fort Collins, Colorado. Once this signal is picked up by the watch, it is decoded by the watch and the time is reset. Many parties interested in an atomic watch may also be interested in the fact that such a timepiece automatically adjusts itself for Daylight Saving Time, leap year and leap seconds. In fact, there are some atomic clock models which are so accurate that they deviate less than one second during millions of years. That is an incredible display of accuracy and precision, the likes of which can rarely be fathomed.
Fort Collins’ Atomic Clock has a radius of three thousand kilometers. While this makes the signal available to most of the United States, the obvious exceptions include Hawaii and Alaska. Individuals worried about traveling overseas with their atomic watch will likely delight in the fact that such a timepiece will continue to function as a quartz watch. Europe operates their own Atomic Clocks in their countries, but the radio frequency is not identical to the one utilized in Colorado. As a result, atomic watch models that operate on the United Kingdom’s frequency will not automatically pick up the radio frequency coming out of Fort Collins, and vice versa. Nonetheless, when in range of their respective towers, these timepieces are highly exact in expressing the true universal time on an atomic level.
Some watch models have GPS capabilities, which allow for the pinpointing of individuals in exact geographic locations all over the world. GPS functions are extremely important and desirable in atomic watches because they allow the timepieces to automatically adjust to time zones. While atomic watches are high-functioning, the basic models do not allow for time zone shifts, although they do contain programming to convert the time from Colorado to the wearer’s programmed time zone. Atomic watch models with GPS capabilities are able to automatically detect when a person changes time zones. For example, an individual flying from the East Coast to the West Coast would not have to worry about recalibrating their GPS enabled atomic watch, while an individual without the GPS option would need to reprogram the time zone of their timepiece.
Many of the atomic watches offered to today’s consumers utilize Swiss timekeeping technologies. There are many watch manufacturers that take advantage of the Swiss timekeeping advancements, such as the Wenger watch company, but atomic watch models go beyond the mechanics of the Wenger watch models and incorporate radio signal receivers as well. For those who are obsessed with accuracy, an atomic watch is perfect for them. These timepieces are available for men and women and offer a number of genre designs, including luxury and sport models. |
