Server Hosting Choices for People, Small Businesses, and Enterprises
Having any website, data, or service hosted online requires an adequate amount of storage space. The flexibility for data storage and the ability to handle a large amount of traffic is limited by the size of the server behind the package. Server hosting can involve various levels of plans. Dedicated servers are set aside for your own data, when you specify these, and nobody else’s.

An unmanaged server gives you a greater amount of freedom, because you can make changes to it whenever you want. You can make hardware changes as well as changes to scripting languages and database tools at your own discretion. While there are plans that are solely devoted to having the customer manage their own servers, other plans include servers that are managed by datacenter staff. The plus to this is that no technical expertise is required by the customer.

If they are managed, the servers that are included in these plans are best designed for use by businesses. All of the hardware is managed by an outside party, so if anything goes wrong, the provider’s technicians handle the problem. Software upgrades are handled on their side as well. All of the equipment involved in handling the data, and the environmental systems that maintain adequate temperature, humidity, and dust control are maintained at the datacenter. This eliminates the need for extra space, equipment, and IT staff by the company, saving lots of money.

Server hosting for businesses can include gigabytes of memory, powerful processors, hundreds of domain licenses, and large allocations for bandwidth. The high volumes of traffic encountered by a successful business needs to be handled properly. If they are not, then the company can miss out on important sales and customers will move on to other, more reliable sites. Always do you research into how reliable the service is, and look if there are complaints listed online, including on message boards and directly on search engines.

An enterprise server, in comparison to a business server, includes more memory, larger hard drives, more advanced control panels, and bandwidth and domain licenses that could be unlimited. These could be a few hundred dollars per month, but are maintained to a higher standard, and include a lot more than your average starter plan.

In addition to the different server types, server hosting can include extra features that could be beneficial to anyone. Data backup is essential and should never be overlooked. Sometimes there are scheduled backups that are done automatically. Additional protection comes from mail filtering tools, which protect against spam and viruses. Firewalls can be an integral part of the service as well. Control panel choices, including Plesk and others, allow for a comprehensive interface for controlling your Web tools and data.

If the service includes a server system that is managed, software upgrades are automatic as well, so you will always be up to date on the latest operating system, antivirus and antispyware programs, and other interfaces that you may be using. Maintenance is done as needed, so you don’t have to worry about downtime affecting your business. The servers themselves are hardy equipment, so they can handle a lot of bandwidth and data.

Whether offering unmanaged or managed servers, or designed around the needs of casual users, small businesses, or large enterprises, server hosting is a solution that saves a lot of money on managing in-house equipment and paying an IT staff to maintain all of it. You can also tailor your plan to the specific requirements, and have a customized system that will function perfectly as you build up business via the Internet.
